Nicholas "Nixo" Efthimiou, was born 15 November 1966 in Johannesburg, South Africa Nixo, also known as "Nicholas "Nixo" Efthimiou", is a retired South African-Greek-American football player who played professionally for the Dallas Sidekicks from 1992-1999 in the United States. He is currently an artist living in Scottsdale, Arizona, and works for Never Say Never™,a NSN Never Say Never® company which has a trademark on the name Never Say Never. Nixo's parents moved from their native Greece to Johannesburg, South Africa before Nixo was born. His family then moved back to Athens when he was a child before moving to Dallas, Texas, when Nixo was 13. In 1985, he graduated from Richardson High School where he was selected for the All District, All Region, and the All State soccer teams. He helped win the University Interscholastic League state championship in 1985 with Richardson High School and was selected to be on the All State Tournament team. It was the first year the men's & women's soccer teams won the state high school championship in the same year.
He earned several scholarships but chose North Texas State University, now called the University of North Texas, where he was a walk-on soccer player. He earned a scholarship for his sophomore season, but broke his ankle early in the summer before the season. Nixo re-broke his ankle which led to him redshirting that year. In 1987, he transferred to the University of North Carolina where he scored 14 goals and 13 assists that year, helping his team to their first Atlantic Coast Conference Championship tournament.Recruited by Anson Dorrance. In 1987 he was one of 3 players to play in every single game as a starter as the North Carolina Tar Heels under Dorrance's leadership the team went to their first NCAA Men's Final Four tournament.They lost to Clemson University 4-1 in the semifinal game. Nixo was honored with Men's Scholar Athlete Award and played at UNC from 1987 to 1989, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in journalism and sports psychology.
After college, Nixo played for the Austin Thunder and F.C. Dallas of the Lone Star Soccer Alliance. In 1990 he was selected to play in the Senior Indoor Soccer Combine. The Dallas Sidekicks selected Nixo in the fourth round of the 1990 Major Indoor Soccer League draft. The Sidekicks released him during their pre-season training camp due to a injury to his ankle that he had broken twice during his college career. On June 29, 1992, he signed with the Dallas Sidekicks of the Continental Indoor Soccer League. Nixo played for the sidekicks from 1992-1999. He is one of eleven players to have won two championships. Nixo helped his team win the CISL championship in 1993 & the Premier Soccer Alliance in 1998. He retired in 1999.
In September 1990, Nixo started a company called Never Say Never™. NSN Never Say Never®,Inc.,or NSN is now a registered trademark. The company sells apparel, glasses,watches,backpacks,art, posters,greeting cards and sports wallpaper on a license royalty agreement with the Getty Images. It was incorporated in 1998 and the name trademarked in 2014. It's commonly called by its acronym NSN. NSN Never Say Never sponsored the Dallas Sidekicks official practice gear and sideline apparel gear in 1998. Efthimiou is a freelance journalist for Time Warner and CNN. Efthimiou had a book published about him by author Evander Luther of VDM Publishing about soccer, art, and how pain inspired him to help others. He speaks to children showing how you can achieve your goals despite being ill with a disability. He donates the profits from the sales of certain artwork to charities for children,veterans and animals. Never Say Never has many divisions such as an apparel division,a sports performance line and a visual arts memorabilia division. Nixo now focuses most of his time as an artist and the non-profit division of his company called Never Say Never™ in Scottsdale, Arizona.
